For instance, consider a user who logs into a system and has a local home directory on that system. Next, consider all of the various system configuration files, which have world-readable access (hint, take a look at /etc/). Through the use of hard linking, a user with a shell account and a home directory can potentially exploit any of these worldreadable files.
