All Windows Active Directory setups include at least one domain and one forest. A forest is the top level of any Active Directory infrastructure, and a domain is a logical segmentation of a forest. In a basic Active Directory setup (and most Active Directory environments are a basic setup), you will have only one domain in a forest and will often simply use the same name for the domain and the forest.
