If you are accustomed to object-oriented programming, this may seem strange at first. But consider the benefits. The service-oriented architecture of the Report Server eliminates tight coupling between the consumer and server. If the Report Server had an object model that could be instantiated locally by the report consumer, then most likely its client base would have been restricted to .NET-based applications only. Instead, thanks to its service-oriented architecture, RS can be integrated with any type of consumer. Developers familiar with designing stateless web services will find the Report Server programming model similar.
