The second section of the drop-down menu is labeled Active Configuration, and that s what you need to change so you can build a version of your application to distribute. By default, when you re working in Xcode, you re working in the debug configuration. When you build an application this way, Xcode builds it with extra stuff to make it easier to troubleshoot your application. These debug symbols allow you, for example, to examine and change the values of different variables while the program is running, or to step through your source code line-by-line using the debugger. In this chapter, we re not doing anything that needs those symbols, but it s generally good to develop using the debug configuration, switching out of it only to create a distributable version of your application. An application built using the debug configuration is going to be a bit bigger and slower than one built for distribution. On the other hand, building for distribution is typically a bit slower than building the debug version, because the compiler is doing more work to try to optimize the resulting code, and usually building for multiple platforms (Intel and

down into subcategories in a much more detailed view than in previous versions Each of the logging categories can be configured either individually or by inheriting settings from the parent category, as shown in Figure 2-7 In addition, SharePoint 2010 introduces something called event log flood protection This detects repeating log events and suppresses them until the problem is fixed or conditions return to normal This helps administrators reviewing the application event log, as it will not be flooded with multiple iterations of the same event In SharePoint 2010, you not only have the option to set the number of days the trace log files should be retained, but you can also specify the maximum amount of disk space the log files can use SharePoint will restrict the log files from growing larger than the configured value

Now select the color well on the left, open the Bindings Inspector, and configure its Value binding to use the colorset controller with the selection controller key and the color1 model key path. Select the color well on the right, and configure its Value binding to use the colorset controller with the selection controller key, this time with the color2 model key path. Save your work, switch back to Xcode, and click Build & Run. Our app launches, and a new, empty Untitled document window appears, but the color wells are unclickable! In our haste to get something onscreen, we neglected to create something pretty important: a model object!

What we need to do is write some code that will insert a new ColorSet object into the object controller whenever a new document is created. In Xcode, open the MyDocument.h file. Here we re going to add two instance variables. One is an outlet called objectController for pointing to the NSObjectController that the assistant put into our nib file a page or two ago. The other is a BOOL called isNew that we ll use to keep track of whether each document has just been created or was loaded from a file. Here are the changes for the .h file:

Figure 2-6

#import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface MyDocument : NSPersistentDocument { IBOutlet NSObjectController *objectController; BOOL isNew; } @end

Now switch to the .m file. This file contains some ready-made methods, with comments showing where you can extend their behaviors. We re going to implement a bit of functionality in the init and windowControllerDidLoad: methods, as well as implementing the initWithType:error: method, which we ll explain in a bit. The predefined methods in here all come from NSDocument, which handles most of the document-related functionality for us. MyDocument s direct superclass, however, is NSPersistentDocument, which implements additional functionality for storing documents as Core Data storage back-ends. Here you see the lines you need to add:

#import "MyDocument.h" @implementation MyDocument - (id)init { self = [super init]; if (self != nil) { } return self; } - (id)initWithType:(NSString *)typeName error:(NSError **)outError{ if (self = [super initWithType:typeName error:outError]) { isNew = YES; } return self; } - (NSString *)windowNibName { return @"MyDocument"; } - (void)windowControllerDidLoadNib:(NSWindowController *)windowController { [super windowControllerDidLoadNib:windowController]; if (isNew) { id newObj = [objectController newObject]; [newObj setValue:[NSColor redColor] forKey:@"color1"]; [newObj setValue:[NSColor yellowColor] forKey:@"color2"]; [objectController addObject:newObj]; } } @end

In the next chapter this identity will be generalized for nonvanishing momentum transfer in the form due to Takahashi:

NOTE SharePoint 2010 uses NTFS file system compression to reduce the size of trace log files by more than 50% Another improvement made in SharePoint 2010 that will significantly help administrators with troubleshooting is the use of correlation IDs Each request in SharePoint is associated with a correlation ID that will follow the request all the way down to the database layer and back This makes it much easier to track down the root cause of a problem In addition, a correlation ID is shown in the browser whenever a error is raised, so that administrators can actually find the specific request that caused the problem for the end user With the Usage and Health Data Collection service application that is provisioned and started by default, SharePoint 2010 can log useful information about page requests,
