Recording Geometries illumination beam enters the bottom of a clear block-commonly acrylic plastic- and illuminates a hologram with a sharply diverging w av efront . The implications of this diverging illumination are the primary drivers in considering our recording geometries. First, consider the case where we choose to use complex conjugate illumination to play back our final edge-lit image; our sharply diverging illumination beam is the complex conjugate of a sharply converging reference beam. To create a reference beam that fully irradiates the holographic plate and converges to a nearby point-the point from which the illumination beam would diverge- would require a very large, very optically fast, very expensive convex lens. This is impractical. A second potential reference beam approach would be to follow traditional practice and collimate the reference beam, setting up playback with collimated, complex conjugate illumination. This, however, pushes the burden of collimated playback onto the illumination beam and into our display device design, whose fundamental design goal is simplicity. So while this is a practical solution, especially with the potential use of low cost gratings in the base to effect collimation, we prefer a different constraint for edge-lit reference beams. The constraint that we prefer for edge-lit holography is to limit the reference beam to be identical to the intended illumination beam, and always to play out the virtual image from the displays with direct illumination. And, as you will see from the following examples, this is not a particularly harsh constraint.

Although the Web designer has a full palette from which to choose, Fireworks starts with just three basic colors: Stroke: The default Stroke color is applied to any path that is drawn or stroked with any of the drawing tools, such as the Pencil, Pen, Brush, or Rectangle. Fill: The default Fill color is applied to any object when a Solid fill-type is selected in the Fill window. Highlight: To show a selected object, Fireworks temporarily changes the outline of the object to the Highlight color. When the object is deselected (or another object is selected), the Highlight color is removed. You make all default color changes through the Color Defaults section of the General category in the Preferences dialog box. To alter any of the Stroke, Fill, or Highlight colors, use their respective color wells, which display the standard Fireworks color picker. Choose any of the swatches shown, or use the Eyedropper tool to select an onscreen color. For a wider selection of colors, select the Palette icon to display your operating system s color picker(s). You can alter both the Stroke and Fill colors by choosing their respective color well on the Tools panel, the Color Mixer, or any number of other windows. The Highlight color can only be changed through Preferences. All color changes take place immediately after the Preferences dialog box closes.

You don t have to remember to run the Import Word HTML command to take advantage of Dreamweaver s clean-up features. If you ve already opened a document saved as Word HTML, choose Commands Clean Up Word HTML to gain access to the exact same dialog box for the existing page.

Optionally, you can pass the method a Boolean value. A value of true pauses the video if it s playing back, and it does nothing if the video is already paused. Likewise, a value of false causes the video to resume if it is paused, and it does nothing if the video is already playing back.

What clean_entries() does is pretty simple. It visits each serialized entry currently present in the directory managed by this object and checks the entry s age. If it s older than the maximum allowed, the method deletes this entry file. This keeps stale data out of the feed. Listing 10-8 finishes up this module with a pair of utility methods.

The nonlinearity N( f ) of a permutation f ( f0, f0, . . . , fn21) of Z2, n is N ( f ) ; lim N ( fi ):

A parameter is a variable within a function in which the value is assigned when the function is invoked. As you can see by the example with displayGreeting(), the parameter is named sFirstName, and the value of that variable is set each time the function is invoked. When the function is invoked with the value Joey, the variable is assigned that value. Or, if the same function is invoked with the value Robert, the variable is then assigned that value. The parameter (variable) is declared within the parentheses of the function definition. You may notice that the declaration of a parameter is similar, yet slightly different from the declaration of a regular variable. First of all, the declaration is similar in that you are asked to create a name for the parameter and define the datatype. However, when you declare a parameter you should not use the var keyword. Nor should you use a semicolon. And you cannot initialize a parameter within the parentheses. The following are incorrect examples, and will result in errors.
