After you define a handful of brushes, you may want to save them for use on a different computer or to avoid losing them in the event of any problem that might require you to reinstall Photoshop. Photoshop saves these brush groups in what are known as libraries, some of which ship with the software, and are found in the Presets/Brushes folder inside the folder that contains the Photoshop application. Brush libraries have the .abr file extension, as you ll see when you go to save one of your own. You can save brush sets as well as load and edit them by choosing commands from the Brushes palette menu when the Brush Presets panel is displayed. You also can choose commands from the Presets palette that you get when right-clicking with a paint or edit tool (other than the Color Replacement tool) in the image window. You can manage libraries (those you ve saved and those that ship with Photoshop) by choosing Edit Preset Manager, which is shown in Figure 5.21 with the Brushes panel at the forefront. If you re already working in the Preset Manager, press Ctrl+1 ( +1 on the Mac) to get to the Brushes panel.

Figure 6.10 A glimpse of details of metagenomic methodology: microbial community DNA sequencing. Schematic diagram of common approaches for retrieving genomic sequence information from natural microbial populations. (a) One approach uses large DNA inserts recovered in bacterial arti cial chromosomes (BACs) that are each derived from an individual cell. Subsequent sequencing and assembly results in a contiguous DNA sequence that is derived from a single cell in the original populations. (b) Another approach is based on recovery of small inserts, and attempts subsequent assembly from cloned DNA derived from a genetically heterogeneous population. The end result is an assembly of DNA sequence that is derived from many different cells. (Reprinted by permission from Nature Reviews Microbiology, from DeLong, E.F. 2005. The Flex framework implements significant parts of the W3C s CSS recommendation and adds features that make the technology particularly effective for implementing Flex application graphic designs. In this chapter, I describe how to use CSS in Flex to control an application s visual appearance. I start by describing how to declare and control style sheets in a number of ways, including how to use embedded and external CSS declarations, and how to use a variety of CSS selectors (a way of describing how styles are applied to various parts of a Flex application). At the end of the chapter, I describe programmatic approaches to managing styles at runtime, including the use of the styleManager object.
