Designed for terminals with little or no graphics capability, mobile text access relies upon SMS or e-mail. When using SMS for mobile text access, the users send an SMS message to the appropriate access point, identified by its number, as they would any other SMS message. This message must include certain keywords, known as short name commands. The short name commands identify the application service being requested. Users SMS messages are sent (typically) from a cell phone. They pass over the wireless network to which the user subscribes (and possibly through gateways to other intermediate network operators) to the SMS aggregator device of the network operator to whom the Oracle Collaboration Suite is a subscriber. The aggregator pushes the message from the access point number to the Mobile Collaboration access point. It will be necessary to make a commercial arrangement with the network operator that takes account of anticipated message volumes and service levels. The Async Listener parses the SMS request and passes it to the Messaging server. The Messaging server retrieves the desired content from the relevant application component and returns it to the Messaging Gateway. From there, the message passes to the network operator s SMS aggregator and across the airwaves to the user s cell phone.
