As world dynamics is increasing rapidly (military con icts, terrorist attacks, consequences of global warming, etc.), crisis management is becoming one of the hottest topics in both civil and military areas. Rapid composition of an ef cient crisis reaction force (or CRF), whether national or multinational and providing its high operability and survivability in unpredictable and hostile environments, is an extremely important and complex problem to be solved. Advanced CRF should ef ciently work in manned, automated, and, possibly, fully automatic mode, with the use of (massive and cooperative) robotics within the force mix and uni ed command-and-control infrastructures. Such a force, possibly, composed from dissimilar and casual components, can be heterogeneous and distributed over a large territory. It should, however, always remain operational and manageable as a whole, capable of pursuing local and global goals and assessing distributed situations, despite the high probability of indiscriminate damages of its components and communications between them. Infrastructure of a system is usually considered as something solid, static as the backbone of an organism. In highly dynamic situations the CRF may happen to operate, the very infrastructures of these systems may need to be dynamic too, as a function of the external environment and system s mission, which may change over time. We may

By definition, all longitudinal modes except for the desired mode are suppressed from oscillating in a single mode laser. For diode lasers, total suppression of unwanted modes can be difficult to achieve because of their high gain. A cavity loss greater than 90% is required to stop laser oscillation in a GaAlAs Fabry Perot laser with a gain of 100 cm 1 and a length of 250 m [2]. Losses this high are not easy to realize because, with a refractive index of 3.5, even the interfaces between air and the uncoated cleaved facets of the laser reflect more than 30% of incident laser power. Anti-reflection coatings and other measures can help lower the reflectivity and reduce the likelihood of lasing. However, it is impossible to totally prohibit emission of radiation from unwanted modes as even below threshold the laser will produce amplified spontaneous emission. The figure of merit that describes the effectiveness of suppressing undesired frequencies is the Side Mode Suppression Ratio (SMSR). It compares the optical power in the desired mode, Pout , with that in unwanted modes, Pside , and is expressed as the ratio of the two: SMSR = 10Log Pout Pside (8.7)

an instantiation of a Grid service that can be dynamically created and explicitly destroyed. A Grid service that can create a service instance is called a service factory, a persistent service itself. A client can request a factory to create many service instances and multiple clients can access the same service instance. As shown in Figure 2.15, a user job submission can involve one or more Grid service instances, which are created from corresponding Grid service factories running on three nodes. The implementations of the three services are independent of location, platform and programming language. A Grid Service Handle (GSH), a globally unique URI that distinguishes a speci c Grid service instance from all other Grid service instances, identi es each Grid service instance. However, Grid services may be upgraded during their lifetime, for example to support a new protocol version or to add alternative protocols. Thus, the GSH carries no protocol- or instance-speci c information such as a network address and supported protocol bindings. Instead, this information is encapsulated, along with all other instancespeci c information required to interact with a speci c service instance, into a single abstraction called a Grid Service Reference (GSR). Unlike a GSH, which is invariant, the GSR(s) for a Grid service instance can change over that service s lifetime. A GSR has an explicit expiration time, or may become invalid at any time during a service s lifetime, and OGSA de nes mapping mechanisms for obtaining an updated GSR. The GSR format is speci c

Current hardware fault injection equipment delivers faults by altering voltage levels, injecting data using test pins, and even bursts of EMI. Faults can be delivered to software over any medium from which the software application accepts input data. In the Windows operating system, this could be through the filesystem, registry, environment variables, Windows messages, LPC ports, RPC, shared memory, command-line arguments, or network input, as well as a variety of other mediums. The most vital communication mediums used by today s software applications are the TCP/IP network protocols. Using these protocols, we can communicate with vulnerable software products from the far reaches of the globe. In this section we ll discuss some methods and guidelines for delivering faults over network protocols. Delivery is initiated from the modification engine. For each iteration of our modification engine, we will deliver the modified input to our target application using a suite of network functions designed to deliver data over TCP/IP connections. After we modify our input data, we will then deliver our modified data as follows: 1. Create network connection to target application. 2. Send our modified input data over the created connection. 3. Wait momentarily for a response. 4. Close the network connection.
