As described in 17, a positioned database UPDATE or DELETE statement (UPDATE WHERE CURRENT OF or DELETE WHERE CURRENT OF) can be used to modify or delete the current (that is, just fetched) row of query results. These embedded SQL statements use the cursor name to identify the particular row to be processed, since an application program may have more than one cursor open at a time to process more than one set of query results. To support positioned updates, the CLI provides the SQLSetCursorName() call shown in Figure 19-17. The call is used to assign a cursor name, specified as one of its parameters, to a set of query results, identified by the statement handle that produced them. Once the call has been made, the cursor name can be used in subsequent positioned UPDATE or DELETE statements, which can be passed to the CLI for execution.
