Transactional replication incurs much less overhead on the publisher than merge; thus, I like it better. As with transactional replication and snapshot replication, the I/O subsystem and network are very important. In addition to configuring sufficient I/O for merge replication, it is also possible to improve merge replication by configuring the merge batch size. By increasing the batch size, you have fewer batches that are larger and therefore more efficient. In addition to the merge batch size, you may want to tune snapshot replication, as described above. However, the snapshot occurs only once, so this step can be skipped. I/O configuration and the other considerations are described here in the following sections. Configure Sufficient I/O By configuring sufficient I/O capacity, the performance of the entire replication process may be enhanced.
