The restrict keyword is applied to both parameters thus indicating that the strings referenced by s1 and s2 are only referenced through those pointers in the body of the function, so the compiler can optimize the code generated for the function. The restrict keyword only imparts information to the compiler and does not guarantee that any optimization will be applied. Of course, if you use the restrict keyword where the condition does not apply, your code may produce incorrect results. Most of the time you won t need to use the restrict keyword.
