The reasons for using one over the other are insignificant, as both are very viable solutions for getting the job done well. The following are some of the differences between these two frameworks: In PureMVC, you do not do data binding between the model and views. as you do in Cairngorm. You can bind data from mediators to views, which would create tight coupling between the two layers. PureMVC requires mediators to directly manipulate the view, whereas Cairngorm holds the data elements on the model, which is globally accessed. Cairngorm has a service locator to separate your RemoteObject, WebService, and HTTPService definitions, which are then used in the delegate. PureMVC has you define them in the delegate or multiple delegates. Technically, you could create a singleton in PureMVC to act as a service locator if you were inclined to do so. With PureMVC, views require mediators to push data updates to the view. Cairngorm has the view binding to a model. The one big weakness in Cairngorm is where PureMVC shines.
